The original maps
The political and physical maps are the work of cartographer Tom Patterson. We use the original raster files from equal-earth.com. The political collection was downloaded on 10 September 2026; the source lists version 1.4 and an update dated 22 June 2026. The physical source lists version 1.2, 7 September 2025. A translation’s individual update date may differ from the collection date.
The complete original image is retained, including labels, legends and credits. We resize proportionally and add a border to fit the selected paper. We do not redraw countries, generate geographic content with AI or claim authorship of the underlying cartography.
The projection
Equal Earth was developed by Bojan Šavrič, Tom Patterson and Bernhard Jenny and published in 2018. Its area-preserving property is mathematical; the map’s editorial decisions are separate. Read the projection guide and the original data sources and boundary conventions.
Free to use, including commercially
The source website places the wall maps in the public domain and explicitly permits commercial reproduction. You can download the originals for free and arrange your own printing. Our intended paid service is print preparation, production, delivery and customer support. The source author does not endorse this shop.

Dates and boundaries matter
A world map is a dated reference. Borders and names can be disputed; the standard political editions are not country-specific legal documents. Our physical map omits political boundary lines but retains place names. The checkout initially considers only Germany, the United States and Japan; sales remain closed until country-specific product, shipping and operating approvals are complete.
What is ours
The newmap.world website, the size-aware print preparation and the teaching material are separate from Patterson’s cartography. The interactive projection tool uses generalised Natural Earth data. It is an educational illustration and does not replace the original print maps.
