The campaign’s request.
Correct the Map advocates a proportionate representation of Africa. Its own website documents its position, rather than independently establishing every psychological claim. Equal Earth predates the campaign; its developers published the projection in 2018.
What can be checked directly.
Mercator increases area scale away from the equator. Equal Earth preserves area ratios. These mathematical properties hold independently of political support, and each projection has its own uses and limitations.

Which claim stands up to scrutiny?
Different claims need different evidence.
Lapon and colleagues’ findings do not support a simple mental copy of Mercator. Advocacy and empirical findings should be read separately. An institutional decision likewise requires a final text and an unambiguous identifier; reporting or a draft is insufficient. This article verifies no particular UN resolution number and derives no legal obligation.

Our editorial approach.
An earlier version contained conflicting UN-document details. We do not carry those unresolved details forward as facts. Mathematical properties, campaign positions and institutional claims are treated separately. newmap.world is independent of the campaign and the UN; these sources do not endorse this shop.
